« The brain isn't a mystery. It follows rules you can understand. »
You turn the last page of a chapter, and everything seemed clear. Each sentence flowed into the next, you nodded along, the author had a gift for making things obvious. Then three days pass. Someone asks you a question about that very chapter, and your mind goes blank. A vague impression lingers, a title, an […]
We spontaneously picture the digital divide as an equipment problem: a missing computer, an absent or too-slow internet connection. That picture is not wrong. It only tells a small part of the story, though. Two students can have exactly the same computer and the same internet access, in the same classroom, and still end up […]
A child argues with a precision and logic that unsettles the adults around them, almost like someone much older. A few minutes later, that same child bursts into tears over something trivial, with an intensity more typical of a child half their age. This apparent contradiction is neither a whim nor a worrying anomaly. It […]
Two groups of participants read exactly the same text. The first group is told they will be tested on it right after. The second is told they will have to teach it to someone else, who will then be tested on that same content. In reality, no one ever teaches anyone anything: both groups end […]
You walk out of a class, a meeting or a book feeling like you understood everything. Two days later, almost nothing is left. A name, a blurry idea, the faint sense that you once knew. That gap in your memory is not a personal flaw. It is not a lack of intelligence, nor an attention […]
You’ve been thinking about it for years. Spanish for your holidays, English for work, German out of curiosity. And every time, the same sentence stops you dead: “it’s too late, you can’t learn a language at my age.” This belief is stubborn. It is also, largely, false. Not entirely false, that would be lying. But […]
There is that child, at the back of the class, in front of their sheet. Around them, the others move on, decode, turn the page. They stay stuck on one word, then another, as if the letters refused to hold still. The teacher grows a little impatient. Their classmates finished long ago. And they tell […]
You know this scene. A class, a lecture, a meeting. You fill page after page, diligent, exhaustive. You file it all away carefully. And you never reopen those notes. Or if you do reopen them, you get lost in a wall of text where nothing stands out anymore. The problem is not your seriousness. The […]
You sit down to work, firmly resolved to concentrate. Three minutes later, your phone is in your hand, without your even having decided to pick it up. You tell yourself you are distracted by nature, unable to hold on, that your attention is falling apart. That is false. Attention is neither a character flaw nor […]
You close the book, or the tab, after a good twenty minutes of diligent reading. And if someone asked you to summarize what you just read, you would be at a loss. Your eyes moved across every line, you skipped no paragraph, and yet almost nothing remains. This is not a memory problem or a […]
Two students are preparing for the same exam. The first spends the night before rereading everything in one go, coffee after coffee, and shows up the next day with a solid feeling of mastering the subject. The second reviewed the same material, but in small sessions spread over several weeks. A week after the exam, […]
You have probably lived this before. You learn something the night before, you sleep well, and the next day, without having reworked it at all, everything feels clearer, more solid, almost obvious. Conversely, a night that is too short leaves everything blurry, as if nothing had really settled. This is neither luck nor coincidence. The […]
